Much faster than you. A better swimmer than you. Almost 5 times your size. Razor sharp claws. A true apex predator. So what's a sensible reason to be so close, within charging distance and no where to go? There isn't one. Knowing where to go after much research and many hours studying these bear, I stood in about 2 feet of water, well down river at a safe distance. I watched this brown bear move through the shallows and without warning burst into a charge and dive onto a school of salmon.
