This shows Devils Tower's symmetrical columns with crustose lichen, and the historical wooden stake ladder William Rogers and Willard Ripley used on July 3rd and 4th, 1893 to make the first-ever ascent of the tower. You can make out the side edges of the ladder about four columns in, starting from the top-right corner of this image.
