White Sands National Monument

Located near the border of New Mexico, is White Sands National Monument. A place like no other these sand dunes are whiter than a picture can portray. These amazing dunes are made up of gypsum deposits that have washed down from the mountains over the last million years or so. For $3 you can buy a backpacking permit that allows you to hike to one of ten designated camping spots in the dunes.
