The Alabama Hills are known for being the setting of a number of old movies in the heyday of cowboy westerns. Today, it is a gorgeous spot for hiking, camping, etc. There is a particular cottonwood tree that stands alone in the desert here, and in the fall it turns a beautiful golden yellow. In this photo, I captured the tree and boulders in the foreground with Mount Whitney towering in the background.
