I visited Shenandoah in mid-December, after the visitor centers had closed for the season. I pulled up to Dickey Ridge Visitor Center and encountered a very rare sight for this National Park: an empty parking lot. The silence was music; the stillness was serene. A rainstorm was rolling in as I took in the view, so I only had a short window to take photos. Long story short: the off-season is a great time to visit our public lands.
