This photo was shot of the Angel of Marye's Height statute, which honors the efforts of Richard Rowland Kirkland in helping and showing mercy to enemy soldiers. Kirkland was a Confederate soldier during the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg. After the main portion of the battle, Kirkland risked his life by entering the battlefield and providing water, clothes, and blankets to several wounded Union soldiers. His asked of brotherhood toward the enemy was memorialized by this statue.
